The Stimulus Bill

Three contractors are bidding to fix a broken fence at the White House.

One is from Chicago, another is from Tennessee, and the third is from Minnesota.

All three go with a White House official to examine the fence.

The Minnesota contractor takes out a tape measure and does some measuring, then works some figures with a pencil. "Well," he says, "I figure the job will  run about $900: $400 for materials, $400 for my crew and $100 profit  for me."

The Tennessee contractor also does some measuring and figuring, then says, "I can do this job for $700: $300 for materials, $300 for my crew and   $100  profit for me."

The Chicago contractor doesn't measure or figure, but leans over to the White House official and whispers, "$2,700."

The official, incredulous, says, "You didn't even measure like the other guys! How did you come up with such a high figure?"

The Chicago contractor whispers back, "$1000 for me, $1000 for you, and we hire the guy from Tennessee to fix the fence."

 "Done!" replies the government official.

And that, my friends, is how the new stimulus plan will work.

RE-TAKE AMERICA

Somone sent me an email from Paul Harvey! This was its contents:

Folks this is the Month that we RE-TAKE AMERICA

********* Get Ready *********

Keep this going around the globe … read it and forward every time you receive it. We can't give up on this issue.

Paul Harvey and Prayer

Paul Harvey says:

I don't believe in Santa Claus, but I'm not going to sue somebody for singing a Ho-Ho-Ho song in December.  I don't agree with Darwin , but I didn't go out and hire a lawyer when my high school teacher taught his Theory of Evolution

Life, liberty or your pursuit of happiness will not be endangered because someone says a 30-second prayer before a football game.

So what' s the big deal? It's not like somebody is up there reading the entire book of Acts. They're just talking to a God they believe in and asking him to grant safety to the players on the field and the fans going home f ROM the game.

But it's a Christian prayer, some will argue.

Yes, and this is the United States of America, a country founded on Christian principles According to our very own phone book, Christian churches outnumber all others better than 200-to-1. So what would you expect — somebody chanting Hare Krishna?

If I went to a football game in Jerusalem , I would expect to hear a Jewish prayer.

If I went to a soccer game in Baghdad , I would expect to hear a Muslim prayer.

If I went to a ping pong match in China , I would expect to hear someone pray to Buddha.

And I wouldn't be offended.
It wouldn't bother me one bit.
When in Rome …

But what about the atheists? Is another argument.

What about them?
Nobody is asking them to be baptized. We're not going to pass the collection plate. Just humor us for 30 seconds. If that's asking too much, bring a Walkman or a pair of ear plugs. Go to the bathroom. Visit the concession stand.  Call your lawyer!

Unfortunately, one or two will make that call. One or two will tell thousands what they can and cannot do.    I don't think a short prayer at a football game is going to shake the world's foundations.

Christians are just sick and tired of turning the other cheek while our courts strip us of all our rights. Our parents and grandparents taught us to pray before eating; to pray before we go to sleep.

Our Bible tells us to pray without ceasing. Now a handful of people and their lawyers are telling us to cease praying.

God, help us.
And if that last sentence offends you, well .. just sue me

The silent majority has been silent too long. It's time we let that one or two who scream loud enough to be heard that the vast majority doesn't care what they want. It is time the majority rules! It's time we tell them, you don't have to pray; you don't have to say the pledge of allegiance; you don't have to believe in God or attend services that honor Him. That is your right, and we will honor your right . But by golly, you are no longer going to take our rights away. We are fighting back.
and we WILL WIN!

God bless us one and all … especially those who denounce Him , God bless America, despite all her faults. She is still the greatest nation of all.

God bless our service men who are fighting to protect our right to pray and worship God.

2008 will be the year the silent majority is heard and we put God back as the foundation of our families and institutions … and our Military come home from all the wars.

Keep looking up.

If you agree with this, please pass it on.
If not delete it.

'AND THAT'S THE REST OF THE STORY'

Business Checks

How many zeros in a billion?

This is too true to be funny.

The next time you hear a politician use the
word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about

whether you want the 'politicians' spending

YOUR tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend,
but one advertising agency did a good job of

putting that figure into some perspective in

one of it's releases.

A.

A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

B.

A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

C.

A billion hours ago our ancestors were
living in the Stone Age.

D.

A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.

E.

A billion dollars ago was only

8 hours and 20 minutes,

at the rate our government

is spending it.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain…

let's take a look at New Orleans

It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division.

Louisiana Senator,

Mary Landrieu (D)

is presently asking Congress for

250  BILLION DOLLARS

to rebuild New Orleans   Interesting number…

what does it mean?

A.

Well… if you are one of the 484,674 residents of  New Orleans

(every man, woman, and child)

you each get $516,528.

B.

Or… if you have one of the 188,251 homes in
New Orleans , your home gets  $1,329,787.

C.

Or… if you are a family of four…

 your family gets  $2,066,012.

Washington, D.

Checking Your Property Taxes

When checking inot property tax matters, it seems there is a high error rate from the tax assessor's office. Surveys seem to indicate that there is about a 50/50 chance that the assessment is wrong.

So no matter what the economic climate, it pays to be on top of how the assessment figures are compiled. Would you want some arbitrary official to do your income taxes assigning whatever deductions they decided to concoct?

The only problem is that with declining home prices, the tax rates will be going up … unless governments cut their expenses. Fat chance.

If you looking for an inexpensive way to cut property taxes, check out Property Tax Reduction at www.housetaxax.com

Democracy's Checkbook

The problem, it seems, is not with capitalism but rather the lack of enforcement by the justice system. Paid special interest groups twist the arm of government in order to initiate social theft from the haves to the have-nots. They have taken the get up and go out of the natural system of exchange for goods and services.

Arms length transactions that bear no marks of special interest attached are the basis of laze fare capitalism. The capitalism I want to see would be similar to what was experienced within the original 13 U.S. colonies in the early 1800’s.

The other aspect is the type of socialism we are seeing today. According to Harvard Law professor and bankruptcy expert Elizabeth Warren, two-income families today make 75% more in inflation-adjusted dollars, but have less money to spend than one-income families did 30 years ago.

1out of 5 jobs is a government job whose average pay much exceeds average private sector pay.  30 years ago 1 out of 12 jobs was a government job. The government has fingers into practically every aspect of our daily lives.

There is a corruption due to the mere huge size and scope of government. You’ll find hidden self-interest bureaucrats devising schemes to profit themselves. We see government jobs becoming entrenched with the bang for the buck search for effectiveness thrown out the window. “A government big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take away everything you have.” - Goldwater/Ford formulation

Until the hogs at the gate pandering for politicians votes end, those lobbying government will funnel money into excess extravagance, greed and corruption. Yes, our system is broken.

How about enforcing a 10% cutback in spending on all budgets, each year voters get to vote, by making it a permanent ballot box issue. Give the voting taxpayer control of the switch.  If the sum totals of the voters what to halt the budget cuts, fine. If they want more tax cuts, do it. That’s democracy. That’s democracy’s checkbook.

Government Incompetence

The media hype is all over the price of gasoline and the huge profits of the big oil companies. The facts are that the earnings of “big oil” are just under 10% while the taxes on oil are 17%.  Yet we don’t hear about government greed do we?

Seems  media hysteria is a bit one sided. We hear of subprime lenders exploiting the lenders while they in turn are going belly up and investors are in a free fall left holding the bag.  Those who should not have gambled in the real estate market to begin with cry to the government and soft-headed politicians put it to the taxpayers to fund the bailout. Incredible greed compounding a bad situation into a worst one!

Too many people are in  positions of responsibility and use their positions opportunistically for themselves. Teacher propagandize students, media slants the news and politicians sell out for votes instead of what is best in the tax payers  interest to get reelected.  The United Nations is anything but united and functions merely as a conduit to siphon off funds from wealthy countries doing little to nothing to promote democracy or pro market reforms. They waste billions funding corruption and little to saving “the children.”

Business News

Housing prices eroded across the pond in Great Britain as housing prices plummeted 1.1 percent during November, the largest price decline in 6 years. Inflation is also a problem with increasing food prices and energy prices accelerating. Nevertheless, the Bank of England cut the discount rate by 25 basis points to keep everyone happier.

Seem the Brits share a similar fate as us here in the U.S. to some extent. With good employment and productivity reports for the U.S. economy, the dollar looks stronger against major currencies.

This may trim back the 50 basis point rate cut by the Federal Reserve anticipated next week.

Business Property Taxes

Lowering Business Overhead - Property Taxes Check your property taxes lately? Property taxes are a large expense that can be perhaps trimmed. It’s estimated that between 40-60 percent of home are over assessed. With falling real estate rates, locating lower comparable sales are easy to come by.

Valuation principles are the same anywhere in the world. Absolutely. The same principles for adjusting for better or worst categories based on comparable sales is the same touchstone for determining value anywhere in the world.

Any legislating authority that allows you to challenge evidence to change an error in assessments by producing evidence is fair game. Go to

http://www.housetaxax.com for a do-it-yourself manual that will save you the over a thousand dollars it would take to do it professionally.
